Scholarship Information

Congratulations, you have taken the first step toward applying for a Senatorial Scholarship!

My Scholarships are very competitive and provided to residents that are continuing their education in a program approved by the Maryland Higher Education Commission.

Each Senator is given a certain amount of funding per year that is distributed through the Maryland Senatorial Scholarship.  Students are only eligible to apply to their representative in the Maryland Senate and are continuing their education in a school located in Maryland or pursuing course of study that qualifies as “unique major”, (a course that is not offered in any Maryland school). If you feel that your major may qualify as "unique", please contact the Maryland Higher Education Commission at 800-974-0203 to confirm.  To determine who your Maryland Senate Representative is, please visit www.mdelect.net.

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is a federal application to fill out to be eligible for a number of federal and state scholarships and loans.  If you have not filled out your FAFSA yet, please do so here.

In addition to filling out your FAFSA, there are several other resources you can use to maximize scholarship opportunities.  You can apply for a number of need, merit, and career based scholarships throughout the state.  Links to those scholarships can be found by clicking here.  A step-by-step guide to attending college can be found here, or you can visit the Maryland Higher Education Commission’s website, or call (800) 974-0203.

The 2013-14 application is available here.  Results will be mailed to applicants no later than July 15, 2013.

It is your responsibility to ensure that your application is complete and received in my office before the deadline date.

This is one of the most rewarding responsibilities of this office and I encourage you to apply.  Good luck with your scholastic or vocational endeavor.  If you need any further assistance, please contact my district office at (301) 662-8520.

Sincerely,

Senator Ronald N. Young
District 3 – Frederick and Washington Counties
